Addressing infant mortality by providing lifesaving resources to under-served pregnant women and nursing mothers in rural communities.
Nigeria has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates globally, with infections like neonatal tetanus and sepsis causing neonatal deaths, often due to unsanitary birth conditions. Malaria is also a major factor, responsible for over 25% of deaths in children under five and 11% of maternal deaths.
So, how do we begin to address this?
With our partners support here is how we are providing a health solution and delivering life-saving essential services
This kit contains essential supplies for a hygienic birth, including sterile gloves, absorbent delivery mats, cord clamps etc. It adheres to the WHO six cleanliness principles for childbirth, ensuring clean hands, delivery surface, perineum, cutting instruments, cord ties, and proper cord care for the newborn.
We provide treated bed nets to prevent malaria. UNICEF reports that insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) can reduce malaria transmission by up to 60% and lower child mortality by at least 20% when used correctly with timely treatment.
We engage volunteer healthcare professionals to provide essential health training to women in rural communities. Topics include pregnancy warning signs, nutrition, hygiene, newborn care, and the importance of antenatal and postnatal visits, exclusive breastfeeding, immunizations, and safe delivery practices, all communicated in the local language.
This empowers women to make informed family planning choices. We also use affordable mobile technology like SMS and WhatsApp to share vital health information.
Contribute to this vital cause to help mothers and ensure babies celebrate health and life. By reducing preventable complications, we can make a real difference.
Every woman deserves a safe delivery, and every baby deserves a healthy start, no matter where they are!
